What is Nickel?
Nickel was named after Kupfernickel, a German word which means “Devil’s copper”. Nickel with a symbol of Ni is an element with the atomic number 28 and mass of 58.69 atomic mass units. It occurs naturally in the Earth, is lustrous, and is a silvery-white metal.
Formation
Earth was formed billions of years ago through the collision of different asteroids. Nickel can be found inside these asteroids that formed the Earth. As scientists researched, the core contains most of the Nickel content on Earth. Though most of the Earth's Nickel content can be found deep below the planet’s core, Nickel could also be found on the surface of the Earth through intrusions of magma in the Earth’s crust. Magma rich with Nickel, intrude layers of rocks found in the crust and solidifies after a period of time. This is the reason why there are various Nickel deposits on Earth.
